IOWA (Northwestiowanow) — Iowa lawmakers are gearing up for the second year of the state’s two-year legislative cycle.

The 2026 session begins Monday and is scheduled for 100 calendar days.  State Representative John Wills from Spirit Lake expects it to move quickly.

Wills – like other Republicans – says property tax reform will be a top priority.

Other major issues include eminent domain reform, prompted by carbon pipeline projects. Wills says the goal is to make eminent domain a last resort. Wills has some other, personal priorities.

He also hopes to work on school reform and regulations for drone technology.

John Wills represents Dickinson, Palo Alto, and portions of Clay and Kossuth Counties.
