Rock Valley, IA (northwestiowanow) — A large fire fueled by strong winds damaged multiple structures at a dairy operation northwest of Rock Valley Saturday.
The Rock Valley Fire Department responded to the scene around 4:20 p.m.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from a commodity shed used to store feed products for dairy cattle.
Investigators believe windy conditions caused the blaze to spread from the shed to a nearby mobile home located behind the building.
While crews battled both fires, a third fire broke out in a nearby welding shed.
Mutual aid was requested from several surrounding agencies, including Boyden, Hawarden, Hull, Ireton, Orange City, Sioux Center, Hudson, Doon, Inwood, Canton, and Fairview. Rock Valley and Inwood ambulance services, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, and Sioux County Emergency Management also provided assistance.
Firefighters worked to contain the fires and prevent the flames from spreading further. Crews remained on scene to extinguish hot spots and monitor the affected structures.
No injuries were reported, and a cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
