Hartley, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – A pair of Class A District 1 teams collided in Hartley Friday night for an important matchup for Playoff hopes. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn welcomed Sioux Central to town for only the 2nd meeting between the two teams since 2017.

Max Wittmack picked up where he left off after a dominant week last time out, running a Touchdown in from 4 yards away to put Sioux Central out in front 7-0.

HMS responded with a Jackson Vogt Touchdown late in the 2nd quarter, but a failed point after kept them down on the scoreboard 7-6.

The Rebels struck back quickly on a 56-yard Touchdown run by Wittmaack to extend their lead to 8 going into the locker room.

It was all Sioux Central in the 2nd half, scoring three times before a Hawk response, including two more Wittmaack Touchdown runs and a safety. HMS got a late Touchdown pass from Alex Vogt to Luke Dagel, but the Rebels would come away with the 29-12 win.

Max Wittmack had 32 carries for 217 yards and 4 Touchdowns on the evening, as his season total flies north of 1100 rushing yards and 20 Touchdowns.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s Jackson Vogt had a strong effort in the loss with 166 yards of total offense and two Touchdowns.

Sioux Central improves to 2-4 on the year and will try to pick up a 3rd straight win next week at home against Belmond-Klemme. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn drops to 2-4 and will try to get back on track with a road trip to Sibley-Ocheyedan, a game we will carry next week on News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD.
