Paullina, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The South O’Brien Boys and Girls Basketball teams hosted Hinton on Friday night.

The Blackhawk offense got rolling early in the girl’s game, as they launched out to a 29-10 lead in the 1st quarter.  That exact score would repeat in the 2nd quarter, as Hinton extended their lead to 38 going into the half, up 58-20.  The Blackhawks did take their foot off the gas in the 2nd half offensively, but stayed locked in on the defensive end, outscoring the Wolverines 18-15 in the final 2 quarters to win 76-35.

Hinton was led by Sydney Doeschot who scored 20 and had 10 different scorers on the night.  Reese Farquhar would lead South O’Brien with 11 in the loss.

Hinton stays unbeaten on the year at 16-0 and 7-0 in the War Eagle Conference while South O’Brien drops to 3-13 with a conference record of 1-5.

In the Boys contest, Hinton had the lead after the 1st quarter 13-11.  The Blackhawks put together a big 2nd quarter, extending their lead to 12 going into the half.  The Wolverines would respond in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Hinton 25-17 to pull back within 4 going into the final quarter.  Hinton would bounce back, outscoring South O’Brien 15-9 down the stretch to win 61-51.

Karver DeGroot paced 8 Blackhawk scorers with 22 while Logan Kempema added 14.  South O’Brien had three scorers in double-figures, led by Derek Paulsen’s 19.

Hinton is now 12-2 on the year and 7-1 in the War Eagle as the top of the league continues to tighten up.  South O’Brien is now 9-5 on the season and 5-3 in Conference play.

Up next for Hinton will be a Tuesday road trip to Remsen where they will play St. Mary’s.  South O’Brien will also be on the road Tuesday in Hull against Trinity Christian.
