Milford, Ia (KICD) – Okoboji hosted their Volleyball Invitational on Tuesday night in Milford. Estherville Lincoln Central, Sibley-Ocheyedan, and West Bend-Mallard would join the Pioneers in attendance.
In the first round of matches, both went 3 sets with West Bend-Mallard beating Okoboji 2-1 and Sibley-Ocheyedan coming away with the 2-1 win over Estherville Lincoln Central.
Okoboji picked up the win in round 2 against Sibley-Ocheyedan. Pioneer Harper Rabel talked about what went well in their win.
On the other court in the 2nd round, West Bend-Mallard picked up their 2nd win, beating Estherville Lincoln Central 2-0, putting themselves in a position to seal up the Tournament win with a win in round 3. Chloe Masner of West Bend-Mallard liked what was going on up against the net, but there is still room for improvement.
Okoboji would then play Estherville Lincoln Central in the 3rd round. ELC would sweep the Pioneers to pick up their first win of the night. Every game was hotly contested throughout the night. Despite a 1-2 effort, there were some things that Okoboji’s Riley Meyer really liked from her teammates.
West Bend-Mallard would seal up the Tournament Championship with a 2-1 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan in the 3rd round. Haley Stalzer talked about the areas the Wolverines need to improve on as they head in to Twin Lakes Conference Play.
West Bend-Mallard won the Tournament with a 3-0 record. In 2nd was Sibley-Ocheyedan, who was 1-2 but had a game record of 4-5. Estherville Lincoln Central placed 3rd at 1-2 with a game record of 3-4, and Okoboji was 1-2 with a game record of 2-4. Okoboji coach Ashley Linquist talked about where the Pioneers fell short in their close losses.
West Bend-Mallard Coach Kylie Belt said this was a really good night to go with a strong start to the season.
