Paullina, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – It was a dominant effort on Monday night by the South O’Brien Volleyball team who hosted GTRA in the 1st round of Class 1A Region 2.
South O’Brien got off to a quick start, scoring the match’s first 14 points before GTRA was able to get on the board. The Wolverines recorded multiple Serve Aces and rolled to a 25-8 win in set 1.
In Set 2, South O’Brien was able to notch a few more aces. They would go on a long run in the middle of the set with Abby Woodall on the serve, mostly powered by a lot of GTRA mistakes and violations. 8th Grader Emmaly Schueller recorded 3 kills in the set, and The Wolverines took set 2 by a score of 25-10.
The Titans got off to a better start in the 3rd set but still couldn’t string together the points necessary in order to keep up with South O’Brien. With a strong cushion, Reagan Plagge served on a strong run for the Wolverines to finish out the set 25-11. Plagge picked up a pair of aces on that run as South O’Brien completed the 3 sets to 0 sweep.
GTRA wraps up the year at 2-18. The Titans went 1-9 in the Twin Lakes Conference where they finished 11th.
South O’Brien advances in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament to the quarterfinals where they will take on the #12 seed Trinity Christian of Hull. We will bring you that match Wednesday on News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD.
