Waterloo/Newton, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The IHSAA State Golf Championships were played Tuesday and Wednesday at various sites across the State of Iowa for Class 1A, 2A, and 3A.

The Class 1A Individual State Champion was Cody Weaver of East Marshall, shooting 6 under Par in his two rounds.  Taking 2nd was Keith Thompson of Hamburg, going Even on the Tournament.  A KICD 9-County Area competitor in Drew Henderson shot a 72 in round 1 and 71 in round 2 to finish 1 over par and take 3rd overall in Class 1A.

Harris-Lake Park qualified as a team.  Seth Goodell took 10th with a 12 over Par, Camden Vant Hul was tied for 11th at 12 over par, Wyatt Wittrock tied for 19th with 15 over Par, Nathan Goodell was tied for 21st at 16 over Par, Caden Vant Hul took a tie for 37th with a 24 over Par, and Beckett Rahe was tied for 42nd at 27 over Par.

In the Class 1A team scores, Boyden-Hull came away with the State Championship, shooting a team score of 613, 9 strokes in front of 2nd place South Winneshiek.  Harris-Lake Park took 3rd with a 623, just a stroke back from South Winneshiek.

Winning the Class 2A Individual State Championship was Judd Jirovsky of Grundy Center.  Jirovsky shot an uncharacteristic 73 in his first round, but responded with a dominant 66, putting himself 5 under Par total for the Tournament.  Taking 2nd was Rock Valley’s Trey Swanson, shooting 2 under Par.  3rd was West Branch’s McGavin Smith, finishing even to Par after two rounds of play.

MMCRU qualified as a team.  The Royals best individual score came from Kamden Bork who tied for 41st with a 21 over Par, Cayben Olson was tied for 48th with 23 over Par, Mason Hill took 57th with a 27 over Par, Michael Schmillen was tied for 62nd with a 29 over Par, Brandon Dreckman took a tie for 71st with 35 over Par, and Owen Lennon was 81st at 41 over Par.

For the Class 2A team scores, Columbus Catholic of Waterloo won with a total of 610, State Runner-Up was Rock Valley with a 614, and Aplington-Parkersburg would take 3rd with 625.  MMCRU finished 11th with 673.

The Class 3A Individual State Champion was Parker Rodgers of Nevada with a combined 5 below Par.  The KICD 9-County Area had another top 3 finisher in Spirit Lake’s Jaizik Miller, shooting Even to Par in two rounds of action, finishing in a tie for 2nd with Grady Oleson of Marion.

Okoboji qualified as a team for the State Meet.  Lane Helgeson was 7th with a 3 over Par, Maxwell Jongerius tied for 29th with 12 over Par, Drew Early was in a tie for 40th with 15 over Par, Kaeden Schillinger took a tie for 52nd with 18 over Par, Trey Vander Pol took a tie for 60th with 22 over Par, and Ray Kaiser was 80th with 48 over Par.

Spencer also qualified for the 3A State Meet.  Both Easton Beehler and Reid Doring tied for 31st with a 13 over Par, Tyler Flikkema was tied for 58th with 21 over Par, Harrison Daniels tied for 60th with 22 over Par, and both Trenton Hallett and Foster Roos were tied for 62nd with 23 over Par.

Other KICD 9-County Area scores had Cherokee’s Caden Frederiksen tie for 54th with 19 over Par and Trey Boettcher of Storm Lake tied for 62nd at 23 over Par.

In the Class 3A Team scores, Ballard won the team title with 610, MOC-Floyd Valley was State Runner-Up with 612, and North Polk took 3rd with 615.  Okoboji was 7th with 623 and Spencer finished 12th with 641.
