Armstrong, IA (KICD)– A section of Highway 9 west of Armstrong has reopened after a nearby railroad bridge was damaged in two recent incidents involving large machinery.

Sheriff Mike Martens says the first incident occurred last Monday morning when a semi towing a piece of farm equipment hit and became stuck under the trestle bridge causing significant structural damage and the highway being closed until the bridge was safe enough for traffic to pass under.

The second, almost identical situation occurred Friday afternoon causing the bridge to be partially removed from its foundation.

Crews from Union Pacific Railroad were on site Monday making repairs to the bridge with the roadway reopening late this afternoon.
