Graettinger, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – GTRA hosted their home boys wrestling invitational on Saturday in Graettinger with multiple KICD area schools attending.
At 106, West Bend-Mallard’s Mason Knapp took 1st place, getting a big win over Akron-Westfield’s Connor Morrow in the finals.
Pocahontas Area’s Jacob Lawson took 3rd at 106.
John Ackermen of Pocahontas Area was 2nd at 120 with Estherville Lincoln Central’s Austin Bradley placing 3rd.
At 126, Brysen Loerts of Sibley-Ocheyedan took 3rd.
Estherville Lincoln Central’s Braxton Johnson was 1st at 132 and GTRA’s Kenny Ness took 3rd.
Landon Price of GTRA won at 138 with Estherville Lincoln Central’s Brody Olson placing 3rd.
At 144, Caleb Swedin took 1st. Swedin was one of two Titans to win their 100th career match on Saturday.
Also at 144, Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Dawson Beyer was 2nd and Layton Yager of Estherville Lincoln Central was 3rd.
Estherville Lincoln Central’s Warren Duitsman finished 2nd at 150 with GTRA’s Isaiah Malm taking 3rd. Malm was the other Titan to win his 100th on Saturday. GTRA coach Alex Helmich said he was happy the two could do it at home.
William Lawson of Pocahontas Area won at 157 with Caden Gibbons of Central Springs finishing 3rd.
At 165, Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Easton Beyer took 2nd.
Max Merrill of North Union took 2nd at 175 and Luke Malm of GTRA was 3rd.
North Union’s Brennan Bollinger was the Champion at 285. He would defeat Donovan Young of GTRA in the Championship match.
In the team scores, Central Springs won with 225.5 points, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley was 2nd with 187.5, and Estherville Lincoln Central placed 3rd at 174.5.
GTRA was 4th with 164. Coach Helmich was happy with how his team competed and looks forward to correcting some technical things.
Sibley-Ocheyedan took 6th with 116, Pocahontas Area was 9th at 88, North Union 10th with 74.5, and West Bend-Mallard finished 12th at 37.
GTRA will be looking to compete for a Twin Lakes Conference Tournament Title in a few weeks. They will likely finish 2nd in the Dual Championship race to Alta-Aurelia.
GTRA’s Landon Price echoes his coach’s sentiment that the Titans will need to pile up some bonus points in order to top Alta-Aurelia.
