Spencer, IA (KICD)– Much of the state of Iowa, including the northwest corner were warm and wet for the month of May.
State Climatologist Justin Glisan says there were many areas picking up near or above normal rainfall, but many instances, including several in the local area, involved heavy downpours to the point that water just ran off instead of soaking in.
Glisan says despite that heavy rainfall in parts of the state, Iowa will likely being going down as one of the drier Mays on record.
We are also getting into the time of the year where recently planted crops are going to need more and more water as the plants quickly emerge from the soil.
The extended outlooks for the early parts of June are continuing to show indications of temperatures staying above normal similar to how May ended along with hopes of seeing some increased moisture during the wettest month of the year.
