Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — During the recent rain event there were intersections with standing water in Spencer. Public Works Director Mark White says that was because of seasonal clogs at the surface – not malfunctions with the system itself.

City Manager Kevin Robinson has received a definitive ruling from the federal government, that they will NOT fund a new water treatment facility in Spencer. Robinson says they’ll now focus on updating the existing system.

Robinson also noted that the storm system is some areas of Spencer drain directly to the river, and flood when the river is above grade. The study will examine a way to prevent that backflow in the future.
