Washington, DC (Northwestiowanow.com) — There was no change in the weekly update of the USDA Drought Monitor for Northwest Iowa, but a large section of Central Iowa was removed from the drought area this week.
28 percent of the state is now considered drought free, up from 14 percent last Thursday. Northeast Iowa also saw vast improvement moving from the D-1 “moderate drought” category to D-Zero “Abnormally Dry.”
Most of the KICD Broadcast area remains abnormally dry with most of O’Brien, a portion of Clay, and a small slice of Cherokee county in D-1 moderate drought.
Nationwide: 2 percent of the country is in Exceptional drought, 9 percent extreme, 21 percent severe, and 39 percent moderate. 59 percent of the country is abnormally dry.
