Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — A series of severe thunderstorms swept through northwest Iowa Monday evening, prompting five severe thunderstorm warnings and one watch. The storm system impacted areas along the Highway 18 corridor, stretching from Rock Valley to Sanborn.
Numerous reports indicated hailstones measuring between 1.5 and 2 inches in diameter. The storms also produced heavy rainfall, resulting in localized flooding in fields and over roadways.
Additional wind damage was reported along Highway 60, north of Hospers. Officials are assessing the extent of the damage, and we expect to hear from O’Brien County Emergency Manager Jared Johnson regarding the wind damage in that area.
