SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The Spring Run Shooting Range will close Monday, July 21st for a major renovation project aimed at improving safety, accessibility, and the overall shooting experience.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced the closure as part of a $400,000 upgrade, funded by a $50,000 donation from the Dickinson County Conservation Board and a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Jonathan Jones, Shooting Sports & Range Development Coordinator with the DNR, says the project will replace outdated infrastructure with modern features.

The upgraded range will include a 100-yard range, a 30-yard range, and a clay target shooting area. The design also leaves room for a potential 200-yard range in the future, pending additional funding.

During the closure, shooters are encouraged to visit other public ranges listed on the Iowa DNR’s website. The Ocheyedan Shooting Range, located at 1673 150th Street in Spencer, is the closest alternative.
