Northwest Iowa (KICD)– Dry conditions are continuing to worsen in Iowa in the latest Drought Monitor released Thursday morning.

The new data shows the entire state to be at least abnormally dry, the first time such a number has been seen this year, with 87 percent of Iowa in at least a moderate drought.

On the local side, the biggest change is in the Dickinson and Osceola Counties where conditions deteriorated from having no concerns last week to be being abnormally dry which was the last part of the state of hit that qualification. The rest of the area remains unchanged with southeastern Buena Vista and Western Pocahontas Counties in a severe drought with and moderate drought being seen in the rest of the area except Emmet, Northern Clay and Northern Palo Alto Counties that are still considered to be abnormally dry.

Thursday’s release only takes data through Tuesday morning into account, so any rainfall received from thunderstorms on Wednesday will not be included until next week.
