Des Moines, IA (KICD)– The month of July ended cold and dry compared to normal throughout the state of Iowa despite many other parts of the world seeing almost the exact opposite.

State Climatologist Justin Glisan says reports of Earth having its warmest July ever do not exactly stand up to local conditions.

Those drier conditions that involve Northwest Iowa being nearly two inches below average are a bit concerning because of ongoing drought in the region but also because of that fact normal only gets drier as we head toward harvest.

Looking ahead much of the Upper Midwest is expected to a slight chance of seeing above normal precipitation with some indication that we start to see some cooler than normal temperatures as we proceed into August.
