Fort Dodge, Ia (KICD) – The Iowa State Cross Country Meet was ran on Friday and Saturday in Fort Dodge.
In the 1A Girls Race, Calamus-Wheatland’s Noelle Steines was the State Champion, running a time of 18:22 flat. Nora Peterson of Alta-Aurelia would place 4th with a time of 19:01.9. West Bend-Mallard’s Tyra Schupbach would get 15th with a time of 19:44.7. For the 1A Team Scores, Madrid would win the State Championship with 97 points.
For the 1A Boys Race, Landon Bendgen of Woodbine was the State Champion with a time of 15:55.3. Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Ben Byers took 13th with a time of 16:31.4. MMCRU’s Kaden Galles was 22nd with a time of 16:57.8. Alta-Aurelia’s Jacob Launderville would finish 49th with a time of 17:37.1. For the 1A Team Scores, Lake Mills won the State Championship with 111 points. Sibley-Ocheyedan took 16th with 337. Sibley-Ocheydan coach Ryan Wiersma is happy with the way the season turned out for the boys, but also excited to see how they can improve for next season.
Hillary Trainor of Sumner-Fredericksburg would win the 2A Girls State Championship with a time of 18:09.5. Maryn Frein of Okoboji would place 25th with a time of 20:02 flat. Des Moines Christian would take the team State Championship with 101 points with Okoboji finishing 12th with 261.
The Boys Class 2A State Champion was Emmet Swartzentruber of Mid-Prairie with a time of 15:51 flat. Evan Osler of Okoboji finished 3rd with a time of 15:55.1. Brandon Hughes of Spirit Lake would take 8th with a time of 16:19.5. Okoboji’s Akron Jostand was 17th with a time of 16:40.6. Dietrich Dirks of Spirit Lake was 35th with a time of 17:03.3. Parker Duitsman of Estherville Lincoln Central placed 37th with a time of 17:03.9. Okoboji’s Lane Larson finished 38th with a time of 17:04.5. Sioux Central’s Brayden Kramber finished 44th with a time of 17:10.9. In the team scores, it was Des Moines Christian winning the State Title with 63 points. Okoboji would finish 2nd with 129. Okoboji Boys coach Brad Peter talked about the Pioneers race strategy.
Spirit Lake would finish 11th with 258.
In the 3A Girls race, Marissa Ferebee of Pella would win the State Title with a time of 18:38.6. Spencer’s Peyton Morey would finish 28th with a time of 19:47.2. Spencer coach Drew Schiltz said that was Morey’s fastest race of the year.
The 3A Girls State Champion was Pella with 80 points.
For the 3A Boys race, The State Champion was Canaan Dunham of Pella with a time of 15:18.5. Joel Ramirez-Parra of Storm Lake finished 24th with a time of 16:39 flat. His teammate Luiz Martinez was 28th with a time of 16:42.8. Spencer’s Nolan McCusker was 55th with a time of 17:04.6. Coach Schiltz is looking forward to seeing what McCusker can bring to the Tigers in the future.
The Team State Champion was Gilbert with 57 points.
