Cherokee, IA (KICD)– The process for the City of Cherokee to take over a section of land currently owned by the State of Iowa appears to still be in the works.
Cherokee Area Economic Development Executive Director Bill Anderson tells KICD News the work to make the sale happen is well underway on both sides.
Anderson says the land in question is on the northern edge of a property that is partially inhabited by a behavioral health facility and the Youth Emergency Services Center along with some trails and disc golf.
Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Director Kelly Garcia has previously said the state is interested in selling the unused land to help Cherokee address the local housing crisis.
