Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors heard an update from Summit Carbon Solutions on Tuesday regarding progress on the proposed carbon dioxide pipeline that would run through parts of the area.

Kaylee Langrell says construction on the pipeline, if it is given the final go ahead, is not expected at this point begin until at least next year.

Langrell says there has also been an increase in land acquisition that would be affected by the proposed project.

Despite the increasing number of landowners signing contracts with Summit Carbon, Supervisor Thee still has some concerns over the potential use of eminent domain for those that do not plan to do so.

An ordinance restricting the placement of such pipelines has been put together by Dickinson County Planning and Zoning but has not been acted on by the Board of the Supervisors. Similar ordinances in Story and Shelby Counties have been struck down in court with another currently under review in Emmet County.
