Spencer, IA (KICD)– Tooth decay is considered the most common chronic disease affecting children in the United States and that has health officials putting an added focus on dental care for young people.

As many as four in ten kids are considered to have some onset of tooth decay by the time they hit kindergarten which has Clay County Public Health Director Angel Smith saying it is never too early for parents to start caring for their child’s mouth.

 

At what point should a child start seeing a dentist on a regular basis?

Outside of those regular dentist visits dental hygiene can be kept up at home starting with regular brushing that helps establish a routine while also encouraging healthy eating habits and limiting those sugary treats.
