Arnolds Park, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Arnolds Park City Council approved several measures relating to tourist traffic this week.
Parking in the downtown area is so tight, many vehicles wind up in “no parking” areas or on private property. This summer the current 25 dollar fine will go up to 30 dollars, and if it’s not paid within 30 days it will be doubled to 60. When the new fire department is complete, Hinshaw Street will also become a no parking area, so vehicles parked on the street do not create an issue for firefighters being called to an emergency.
Once upon a time, 202nd Street on the South side of Emerald Hill Golf Course was a quiet street, but now it contains several housing developments and RV camping. The North side – or Westbound lane – is owned by Arnolds Park, while the south side, Eastbound Lane comes under the city of Milford’s jurisdiction. The speed limit was lowered to 25 miles per hour last year, but speeding continues to be an issue. The city council voted unanimously this week to install digital speed signs in an attempt to get motorists to obey the law, or to at least be aware of it.
And with the onslaught of golf cars all over town, Arnolds Park will mandate that those vehicles must be equipped with child restraint devices if they are operated on city streets.
