Spencer, IA — A three-vehicle crash northeast of Spencer resulted in minor injuries and two totaled pickups on the afternoon of October 9th.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 4:57 p.m. on 310th Avenue (N14). Authorities say Michael Kallansrud of Fort Dodge was driving a 2025 GMC Sierra HD northbound when he failed to see two vehicles slowing for a railroad crossing.

Kallansrud’s pickup struck the rear of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Anthony Oxborough of Jackson, Minnesota. The impact pushed the Silverado into a slowing 2024 Peterbilt semi-trailer operated by Joshua Soenen of Emmetsburg.

All three drivers were evaluated at the scene by medical personnel and released with minor injuries. Damage was estimated at $35,000 to the GMC Sierra HD, $20,000 to the Chevrolet Silverado, and $3,000 to the Peterbilt semi and trailer. Authorities say both the Silverado and Sierra HD were considered total losses.

Kallansrud was cited for Failure to Stop Within an Assured Clear Distance and released.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dickens Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol troopers, and the Spencer Ambulance Service.
