Spencer, IA (KICD) — The ENTIRE CITY OF SPENCER’S sewer system is down. Citizens should NOT flush toilets or use showers, even if you are in an area that is not under water. Crews are working to assess the situation and we will let the public know when it is safe to resume using the sewer system. Please be aware that the water in the streets is not clean.
Travel within Spencer is not advised unless urgent, due to high water levels and road closures. If you are able, shelter in place. If you need to leave your home, take your medications in their bottles.
Food essentials may be picked up & donations may be dropped off at Foundation Church, 1410 W. 18th St.
Open gas stations for fuel: North Casey’s, Fast Stop by Spencer Ag & Brew @ the north Y.
Power update: Power is off in part of town, and crews are working to restore it as soon as possible. Details will be communicated out when available.
Water: Plant Continues to Operate. However, parts of south spencer water will be shut off at some point today.
SMU Communications: Internet service continues to be operational. SMU telephone service is currently out, however, progress is being made to hopefully restore partial service later today.
Roads in/out of Spencer remain closed except to emergency personnel.
Natural gas will be shut off south of the railroad tracks only, later today. Updates will be provided as available.
