Pomeroy, IA (northwestiowanow) — A Pomeroy man convicted of sexually abusing a child over a period of years has been sentenced to up to 100 years in prison.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office investigated 39-year-old Jason Michael Peed of Pomeroy. According to the Calhoun County Attorney’s Office, the court found Peed repeatedly sexually abused the same child over a period of years.
The court determined Peed committed three or more acts of sexual abuse over a period of at least 30 days and committed separate sexual acts with the child while the child was under the age of 14.
District Court Judge Kurt J. Stoebe imposed the maximum sentence on each conviction, sentencing Peed to up to 50 years in prison for continuous sexual abuse of a child and up to 25 years in prison on each of two second-degree sexual abuse convictions.
The court ordered the sentences to run consecutively, resulting in a total indeterminate prison term of up to 100 years. Under Iowa law, Peed must serve at least 70 years before becoming eligible for parole or work release.
Upon release from prison, Peed will be subject to lifetime supervision by the Iowa Department of Corrections under a special sentence provision of Iowa law and will be required to register as a sex offender.
The Calhoun County Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.
