Clay County, IA (northwestiowanow) — A Milford woman sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision with a semi tractor-trailer Friday morning in Clay County.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the crash occurred at approximately 10:22 a.m. October 30 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18 and 130th Avenue.

Authorities say 69-year-old Tammy Miesner of Milford was driving a 2019 Buick Envision westbound on Highway 18 when a 2019 Peterbilt semi driven by 38-year-old Tadas Mazuolis of Chicago, Illinois, entered the intersection.

Investigators determined Mazuolis failed to obey a stop sign on 130th Avenue and entered the path of Miesner’s vehicle. The Buick struck the trailer and became lodged underneath it.

Firefighters from Everly and Royal responded to the scene and extricated Miesner from the vehicle. She was transported by Spencer Ambulance to Spencer Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Buick was declared a total loss.

Iowa State Patrol Commercial Motor Vehicle Troopers cited Mazuolis for failure to obey a stop/yield sign and released him at the scene.

The semi sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Everly Fire Department, Royal Fire Department, and Spencer Ambulance Service.
