Spencer, IA (KICD) — Spencer’s Deputy City Manager has an update estimate on the amount of damage caused to property in the flood.

Of approximately 51 hundred residential structures in town, Kevin Robinson says it appears 75 percent were encroached by flood water and sewer backup, 40 percent were encroached by top water alone. About 90 have been identified as having foundation collapses. Of those, Robinson says, a high percentage are rental units. About half of the owners indicate they want to make repairs. The city has received requests for ten demolition permits.

And the latest estimate on Spencer’s workforce by Small Business Administration Director Larry Wajda indicates 500 to 800 workers have been displaced.
