Ames, IA (KICD)– It looks like Mother Nature has at least one more punch to throw our way this winter season in the form of some potentially heavy snow paired with strong winds.
Dennis Todey, the Director of the USDA Midwest Climate Hub in Ames, was our guest on the Midday Farm Show on Monday where he discussed some of the impacts this multiple part system will have including on traffic and travel.
Todey says early forecast model estimates do not rule out the possibility of some areas, especially in Minnesota, seeing a foot or more of snow with this system with those further south likely seeing a sharp cut-off to those totals.
We also have to really consider winds of 45-50 plus miles per hour in this case since most of the snow will likely be on the drier side because of falling temperatures making it easier to move around.
The local area, with the exception of Buena Vista and Pocahontas Counties, currently sits in a Winter Storm Watch beginning Wednesday with updates to headlines expected as the storm system gets closer.
