Spencer, IA (KICD)– Tax reform has been a major talking point in the Iowa legislature for that last couple of years but there is some concern that these cuts could affect certain state tax credit programs to the point they will dissolve.

The conversation on the matter at Saturday’s Eggs and Issues legislative forum began with Representative John Wills of Spirit Lake noting he finds these programs very important to keep around while also saving taxpayers money in the long run.

Senator Lynn Evans of Cherokee added these programs help provide funding for projects for any number of aspects within a community and lawmakers should find a way to keep them viable.

Representative Megan Jones of Sioux Rapids added that the portion of the problem where taxpayers are not seeing tax credits right away, thus less people are contributing likely has to do with dates in which legislation becomes effective.

Senator Dave Rowley of Spirit Lake says it is worth some research to find additional funding sources for programs like Endowment Iowa.

There will be one final Eggs and Issues forum for 2023 this Saturday, March 4th, as the legislature works its way through the funnel process which ultimately decided which bills will continue to see light in the current session.
