Des Moines, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — It was announced Wednesday that FEMA Disaster Assistance is now available for self-employed survivors affected by the flooding, severe storms and tornadoes in 27 Iowa counties.

This includes farmers, ranch hands, artists, musicians and mechanics. FEMA can help replace tools and equipment required for self-employment. Keep in mind, this includes tools not provided by an employer, but required for employment, such as computers, uniforms, power tools, art materials, musical instruments, tractors, utility vehicles, lawnmowers and ladders.

You may be reimbursed for these items if they were damaged by the disaster, and the loss was not covered by insurance.

This includes the following local counties of Clay, Cherokee, Dickinson, Emmet, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Buena Vista and Sioux.

FEMA does require documentation that proves you’re self employed.
