Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Spencer City Council held a Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday evening to discuss hiring a new City Manager.

HR Director Jessica Wright gave the council three options: to conduct a “soft” search for candidates headed by Wright; a “full” search that is conducted by a head-hunting firm; or offering the position to interim-City Manager Kevin Robinson.

Mayor Steve Bomgaars made the recommendation to offer the position to Robinson:

Councilman Brian Balk spoke in favor of proceeding with a “soft search” conducted by Jessica Wright:

Robinson has expressed interest in the position, he would be asking for an annual salary of $195,000 with a 3-year contract.

The majority of the council was in favor of the recommendation to offer Kevin Robinson the position. Ron Hanson would like to see the salary negotiated to a lower number. Loren Reit said he’d like to see a 3-year contract scaled back to 2 years.

This recommendation will be put on the agenda at the next City Council Meeting.
