Des Moines, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — Patrick Hazelett spoke with State Climatologist Justin Glisan for their monthly interview. Glisan says December was warmer than average this year and has been on a warming trend for the last 10 to 20 years.

Average precipitation for the state was 1.4 inches mostly coming in a form of liquid which was right around normal. But Glisan mentions we were in a snowfall deficit for the month of December.

Justin pulled the COOP data and noticed that Spencer was 4.4 degrees above normal than the statewide average.

Looking ahead our focus is La Nina and if and when will La Nina Winter develop.
