Sioux Falls, SD (northwestiowanow.com) – Winds up to 70 miles per hour were reported in various portions of the area including Sibley that appears to be a funnel cloud. We were sent a video from highway 9 West of Sibley that appears to be a funnel cloud. Peter Rodgers from the National Weather Service says it was rotation ahead of the storm called a “Gustnado” that is often mistaken for the real thing.
We got a lot of photos and reports of damage across Northwest Iowa during our live storm coverage yesterday afternoon. Rock Rapids to Sibley seems to have been hardest. We got an update from Osceola County Emergency Management Director Corey Shearer.
Shearer activated the sirens in Sibley nearly one minute before the strong winds arrived.
Shearer recorded a wind speed of 67 miles per hour.
