Lake Park, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — The Iowa legislature has approved continuance of the state sales tax that is filtered back to local school districts. Harris Lake Park Superintendent Gary Richardson says HLP patrons must reapprove the designated use of those funds at a special election Tuesday.

Richardson tells northwestiowanow.com the school board also wants the ability to use sales tax money to demolish the old elementary building if it doesn’t sell.

And since it’s the first election since Kayla Updike was appointed to fill a vacancy on the school board, she’s officially running for the position in Tuesday’s special election.
