Sanborn, IA (northwestiowanow) — Michael D. Johnson, a 1963 graduate of Sanborn Community High School, decided last year that he and his wife Ann wanted their personal multi-train display to be available to a larger group than just immediate family and friends to view and enjoy. Plus, it had grown to be such an undertaking setting it up in their home in West Des Moines each fall since 2011.
It was time to set it up one last time and leave it somewhere it could stay and not have to be disassembled every year. What better place than Yesterday’s Memories & Truck Museum in Sanborn, IA, the town where Michael grew up. Museum curator Rob Balt tells us more about the inspiration behind the model train exhibit.
Michael made frequent trips up from West Des Moines to Sanborn to set up the magnificent display at the museum for many individuals to enjoy far into the future.
Yesterday’s Memories Museum in Sanborn Iowa is hosting an open house this Wednesday the 18th from 5:00 – 8:00pm. The open house is for the promotion of the new model train exhibit. The exhibit creator Michael Johnson will be on site during the evening to promote the exhibit and field questions. The new exhibit viewing is free during the open house, and all attendees will be able to enjoy warm drinks and sweet treats.
