Northwest Iowa (Northwest Iowa Now) — Voters in Harris Lake Park have approved continued use of state sale tax dollars for infrastructure projects, transportation, and technology. 158 people showed up for the special election yesterday, and 148 voted yes.
Kayla Updike was also elected to fill out the remainder of a term on the Harris Lake Park school board after being appointed by the rest of the board to serve on an interim basis.
Voters in the Emmetsburg district yesterday voted “No” on an issue that would allow the tax levy to be increased. 657 patrons showed up at the polls and 83 voted by absentee. Nearly 59 percent voted down the measure that would have allowed the levy to increase between Two dollars 70 cents and four dollars 5 cents at the discretion of the school board.
Coming up in November, Emmetsburg voters will decide the fate of a nearly thirty-million-dollar bond issue for construction of a new elementary school.
