Spencer, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has released information about a car/bike accident that occurred Thursday night in the 23 hundred mile of 340th Street in rural Spencer.

Authorities tell us Ruby Alsman from Spencer – age unknown – was riding her bicycle westbound around 7 o’clock. 22-year-old Carissa Gittins of Laurens was Westbound in a Nissan Rogue, told Deputies she had difficulty seeing because of the sun, and struck Alsman from behind.

Alsman was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital and air-lifted to Sioux Falls with life-threatening injuries. Spencer Police, Spencer Hospital, and Dickens Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
