Des Moines, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — The Iowa DOT is out with its report on aviation accident in 2024. There were seven aviation accidents with one fatality in the state of Iowa from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. The state has averaged 13 accidents over the last five years. 2024 tied 2001 with 7 accidents, with each of those two years having the lowest number of aviation accidents during the previous 60 years.

One of those seven accidents occurred in Northwest Iowa. The report from Iowa DOT says a pilot operating an experimental aircraft crashed two miles west of Mount Vernon. A report was not issued, however, several media outlets cited the Linn County Sheriff’s Office had one person injured in the accident.
