Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Softball team hosted Okoboji in a KICD 9-County Area Non-Conference matchup.

Emma White got the start for the Tigers and gave up a leadoff walk to Grace Hagedorn. Hagedorn would end up coming around to score on a throwing error by Spencer, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

With Brianna Swensen in the circle for Okoboji, the Tigers struck back loudly in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 4 runs, two of them on an RBI single from Brynn Merchant, giving Spencer the 4-1 lead going into the second inning.

Okoboji was threatening in the 2nd inning, but Lucy Simington threw out Brianna Swensen on a steal attempt and Emma White cleaned up the rest with a strikeout to keep the Pioneers at 1.

The Tigers added to their lead with a couple more runs in the 2nd inning, both Simington and Lux collected RBI as Spencer led 6-1 going into the 3rd.

After another shutout frame, Spencer would score their 7th run in the 3rd inning as Mercedes Krieg drove in Kamryn Snyder.

The Tigers vanquished another Okoboji threat in the 4th when Rylie Dowhower attempted to take home on a wild pitch, and Simington was able to find White for the Tag-out at the plate.

Spencer would finish the game off in the 4th, scoring 4 runs and putting them up 10 to end the contest via mercy rule. Brynn Merchant drove in Mercedes Krieg for the game sealing run.

Emma White got the win in the circle for Spencer, throwing 4 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 6.

The loss went to Okoboji’s Brianna Swenson in 3 innings of work with 4 earned runs, 7 hits, a walk, and 3 Ks.

Spencer improves to 6-4 on the year while Okoboji drops to 1-8.

Okoboji is on the road against Conference foe Sioux Center on Wednesday.

The Tigers will host Spirit Lake on Thursday in Laks Conference play.
