Emmetsburg, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — The Emmetsburg Community School District is bringing a revised bond proposal to voters this November, aiming to fund the construction of a new elementary school.

Emmetsburg Superintendent Cory Jenness explained the new plan tackles the three main issues raised by patrons: the tax rate, the location of the new school, and the future of the current West Elementary building.

Jenness notes the significant reduction from the previous proposal’s $2.84 tax increase.

The proposed location for the new school is a 25-acre property in north-central Emmetsburg. He says the bike trail connects to the middle and high schools, and close to the Iowa Lakes Community College library.

Regarding the fate of the existing West Elementary, the district has a plan in place, the YMCA is going to lease the building and provide childcare. The district has launched a website, EmmetsburgBond.org. to provide detailed information, answer frequently asked questions, and keep the community informed.

November 4th is the election.
