Northwest Iowa (KICD)—Parts of Northwest Iowa and Southwest Minnesota awoke early Wednesday morning to a couple of strong thunderstorms.
The initial threat began around one o’clock in Nobles County where a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for 60 mile per hour winds and quarter size hail, but that cell quickly fell apart as it moved into the Worthington area.
Fast forward to around three o’clock when a new cell formed near the O’Brien/Osceola County line tracking east-southeast eventually prompting a warning including much of Clay County and later parts of Buena Vista and Pocahontas Counties as forecasters saw the possibility of hail up to the size of ping pong balls and 70 mile per winds.
No damage reports have been received from either of these cells, but information is still being sought on that front and can be sent via email to weather@spencerradiogroup.com or by calling 800-232-1240.
Heat is expected to continue as the main weather story for the next several days with highs forecast to reach into the middle 90s both Wednesday and Thursday and heat index values into the triple digits leading to the National Weather Service issuing a Heat Advisory Buena Vista, Clay and Dickinson Counties westward for the afternoon hours.
