Cherokee, IA (KICD)– The City of Cherokee is looking for residents interested in filling two open spots on the City Council.
Mayor Craig Schmidt tells KICD’s Nikki Thunder both of the openings have come about because the current seat holders have decided to move out of town.
Mayor Schmidt notes that until at least one of the open spots can be filled, all remaining council members will have to present at all meetings in order to meet the quorum rules when it comes to votes.
Both of the open seats are for “at large” positions meaning anyone that lives within the Cherokee city limits is eligible to hold the office.
At this point, Mayor Schmidt indicates the council will look at appointing citizens to fill the seats instead of holding a special election.
