Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors heard a continued, controversial discussion on a proposed wind energy project in the eastern portion of the county on Tuesday.

Representing the opposition to the proposed project, a group calling themselves Dickinson County Concerned Citizens, was Jamie Hunter who continued a plea that a moratorium is needed similar to what has been done in several other counties in the state to keep construction on wind projects from happening until the current Wind Energy Ordinance can be updated.

Kristy Rogers is a wind energy attorney representing Invenergy, the developer of the specific project being proposed for Dickinson County. She says the current ordinance that is on the books, even though it dates back more than a decade, covers the concerns being raised by the other side.

Rogers went on to say it is her legal opinion that the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors does not have the power to issue the requested moratorium.

Hunter disagrees saying the county has the ability to take action like others in the state already have.

No moratorium was enacted following the nearly three hour discussion since the talks were not noted as an action item on the official agenda.
