Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Iowa High School Football Playoffs round of 16 was played for all classes Friday night.

Matt Groenewold had the call for Big Country 107.7 in Emmetsburg as the E-Hawks took on Sumner-Fredericksburg.

After the defenses held each other in check through the first 2 quarters, Emmetsburg would take their opening drive of the second half 73 yards and cap it off with a Touchdown from Carson Baak after 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead.

The Cougars would respond though, driving 48 yards in 5 plays to tie the game up on a Jackson Willam Touchdown run.

Sumner-Fredericksburg would be driving again in the 4th quarter but threw an interception at the 1-yard line. Emmetsburg would punt with their backs against the wall which would get blocked out of the back of the endzone for a safety, making it 9-7.

Sumner-Fredericksburg would run the clock out in the rest of the game and picked up the 9-7 win.

Emmetsburg combined for 201 yards on the ground to Sumner-Fredericksburg’s 111, but the Cougars were able to collect 119 through the air as well. The Cougars will advance to play Columbus Catholic of Waterloo in the Class 1A Quarterfinals.
