Spencer, IA (KICD)– The City of Spencer is continuing to ponder an offer to buy a building on the edge of Downtown for possible future combination of housing for emergency services.
The building at 2 Grand Avenue is owned by former firefighter Randy Swanson who is looking to sell and enter into retirement. He has offered to sell the building to the city to help create a possible combined for fire and police services.
If the entire plan goes through as is currently being thought out, the idea would be to move the Clay County Communications Center and 911 to this new area at some point which City Manager Dan Gifford says could keep from having to foot a potentially hefty cost to get rid of asbestos in the current facility.
During the discussion last week, Councilman Donvan Wunschel noted he has some concerns surrounding this total idea considering the building would likely not be used for emergency services for some time.
By the end of the discussion, the council was really no closer to making a final decision with staff being instructed to continue gathering additional information.
