Spencer, IA (KICD)– The 2024 Iowa Legislative Session may be in the books, but lawmakers are continuing to look back at the positives and negatives that came out of the last several months.

Senator Lynn Evans of Aurelia tells KICD News while the largest amount of time was spent on reforming the Area Education Agencies, the resulting bill ended up putting less power in the hands of legislators.

Despite spending so much time on the education topic since January, Senator Evans says there was one bill he sponsored that did not get the attention he had hoped for.

On the positive side, Evans says the income tax reform was perhaps the biggest accomplishment in Des Moines for 2024, but it was not as rushed at the end of the session as it may have appeared.

Even though the 2024 session was just adjourned a little over a week ago, Senator Evans is already looking ahead to 2025 which he hopes will feature some discussion on reform to property taxes since that continues to be one of the most common issues he hears within his district.
