Spirit Lake, IA (northwestiowanow) — Voters in Spirit Lake will soon decide the fate of a bond referendum aimed at modernizing facilities at Spirit Lake High School.

Principal Casey O’Rourke says the district is facing several challenges with aging infrastructure, particularly in portions of the high school dating back to 1959.

The proposal would also address concerns with the district’s current vocational technology building, which is located separate from the main high school campus.

Industrial Technology Instructor Ben Frostestad says that separation creates challenges for both students and staff.

Frostestad says updated facilities would also allow the district to expand hands-on learning opportunities.

District officials are encouraging community members to learn more about the proposal before heading to the polls.

Voters will have the opportunity to decide the measure during the upcoming election on November 3rd.
