Arnold’s Park, IA (northwestiowanow) — An Arnolds Park Police Department officer has been placed on administrative leave after allegedly providing a firearm to his underage son.

Court records state 46-year-old Andy Yungbluth told investigators that when he left his son home alone, he provided him with a firearm for protection. Yungbluth also reportedly told investigators the firearm was intended to be used to shoot raccoons for an individual living outside city limits.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office filed a criminal complaint against Yungbluth, charging him with one count of transferring a pistol or revolver to a person under the age of 18, a serious misdemeanor under Iowa law.

Yungbluth has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.

The case is being handled by a special prosecutor after the Dickinson County Attorney’s Office requested the appointment due to concerns over potential conflict-of-interest.
