Des Moines, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer High School and Middle School Archery teams will compete at the State Tournament this weekend in Des Moines at the Jacobsen Building.

Spencer High School has had some sustained success in Archery over the past decade both at the State and National level, and will have the oppertunity to continue that this weekend in Des Moines. Marty Eby is the coach for Great Lakes Lutheran Elementary and will be a Range Master at this year’s State Tournament. Eby talked about the recent success of the Spencer Archery Programs.

Spencer comes in ranked 7th in the State and 71st in the nation with aa score of 3330 this season. Coach Tracy Wilkerson says Spencer has some high expectations for the State Tournament and beyond.

Individually Spencer’s Cade Elsenbast is at a tie for 4th place in the State with an average score of 287, 4 behind the top average score for boys of 291 by Timm Chandonia of South Tama County.

Spencer’s Erin Helmich comes in at a tie for 7th on the girls side with an average score of 282, 9 behind the top average score of 291 by Independance’s Lauren Miller.

The State Tournament will begin with the first flight at 8:00 on Saturday Morning and will continue in to Sunday.
