Okoboji, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa DNR are working to bring back the much-anticipated Paddlefish to the Iowa Great Lakes.
DNR Fisheries Biologist Mike Hawkins says that a lot of the flooding has overshadowed the work they’ve been doing to bring Paddlefish to the Iowa Great Lakes.
Hawkins also mentioned some of the history of the Paddlefish in the Iowa Great Lakes.
Hawkins explains the fish won’t be able to reproduce by themselves.
Hawkins says that the DNR hopes to release the fish sometime this summer. That marks the first time the Paddlefish will be in the Okoboji chain since 1919.
