Spencer, Ia (KICD) – Spencer hosted Denison-Schleswig in Class 4A District 1 play for homecoming night at Dale Norton Field.

Spencer would score with 7:07 remaining in the 1st Quarter when Miles Robbins Blocked a punt that was recovered in the endzone by Brody Johnson, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead after the PAT.

After an interception on the next Denison-Schleswig drive, Spencer capitalized when Cael Bruning tossed it to Brady Vreeman for a Touchdown, and the Tigers had a 14-0 lead going into the 2nd.

Spencer would score once in the 2nd quarter, as Jack Berends took the option pitch from Cael Bruning 21 yards for a Touchdown. A missed PAT would make the score 20-0 going into half.

After forcing a Denison-Schleswig 3 and out to start things in the 3rd Quarter, Spencer would fumble on the very first play of the next drive. Denison-Schleswig would not allow Spencer the ball back for the rest of the quarter putting together a 15-play drive that took nearly 10 minutes off the clock. The Monarchs couldn’t finish the marathon drive off with points though, throwing an interception in the endzone.

Spencer would turn that turnover in to more points as Cael Bruning found Jack Berends on a 38-yard Touchdown pass, putting Spencer up 26-0 with 7:13 to go.

That would be all it took, as the Tigers were able to stop Denison-Schleswig on the next drive and run out the clock, improving to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in Class 4A District 1 play.

8 different Tigers ran the football on the night, combining for 194 yards on the ground in the winning effort for Spencer.

In 8-Player District 1, Newell-Fonda topped Boyer Valley 28-22.

For 8-Player District 2, West Bend-Mallard routed North Iowa 69-26 and on Thursday night, GTRA roughed up Harris-Lake Park 58-8.

Class A District 1 had Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn beat South O’Brien 44-26, Sibley-Ocheyedan lose to #8 Gehlen Catholic of LeMars 34-26, and MMCRU get past Akron-Westfield 14-7.

In Class A District 2, North Union prevailed over West Fork 42-13.

For Class 1A District 2, Sioux Central dropped to Manson-Northwest Webster 24-14 and #4 Emmetsburg hammered Pocahontas Area 51-6.

Class 2A District 1 had Cherokee lose to #1 West Lyon 46-6 and Sheldon drop to #10 Western Christian of Hull 42-7.

In Class 2A District 2, Okoboji rolled past Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 34-12 and #3 Spirit Lake routed Estherville Lincoln Central 49-7.

For Class 4A District 1, Storm Lake lost to Fort Dodge 55-26.
